The Brow Beat

With their ability to update and refresh any look, there’s no wonder that Parisians pay plenty of attention to their brows.

With a love of all things natural and unpretentious, it’s hardly surprising that Parisians favour fresh-faced beauty. No wonder then that eyes often also become the focus of a Parisian look, with brows taking the spotlight. After all, thick yet beautifully tamed brows that frame the face can reflect any change in mood, convey feelings and offer an effortless way to bring some real character to any look.

Shock Factor

Long gone are the highly tweezed and arched surprised-face brows of old, today’s brows are worn much thicker and denser than before.

Tweeze Techniques

To perfect your brows, always tweeze from below using a super-fine pair of tweezers. Pluck slowly, taking care to maintain your overall brow shape. Don’t go overboard, once hairs have been over-plucked they don’t necessarily grow back.

Make-up Magic

To accentuate the natural shape of your brows, start by smoothing brows with a small brow brush. Then simply and carefully fill brows with a pencil, using gentle cross-hatched strokes. For the most natural result, move from bottom to top, filling in sparse areas. If you prefer using a loose brow powder over a pencil, be sure to apply using a short-fibred beveled brush that has been lightly dampened to pick up all the powder pigment.

Brows as seen by two make-up artists

1/ “Brows that are too perfectly shaped tend to give the face a fake look, harden features and can even be a little ageing. To keep a natural look, better to avoid waxing or tweezing the upper brow line and opt for bleaching.” Lisa Eldridge, Lancôme’s Creative Director of make-up.

2/ “I always like finishing up a make-up look by highlighting the tips of the brows with a cream shadow or with a illuminating cream. The cream texture gives a much softer, more modern result than highlighting powder, not to mention bringing a little depth to the entire look.” Georgina Graham, make-up artist.
